Organizational Structure

Today, SHRM Hawaii is a single, state-wide Chapter serving members on the Big Island, Kauai, Maui and Oahu. The Chapter is part of SHRM’s Pacific West Region and is represented on the Regional Council by a State Director.

Among its many functions, SHRM Hawaii is responsible for:

  • Maintaining the SHRM Hawaii website;
  • Organizing an annual State Conference;
  • Gathering information and disseminating it to members;
  • Overseeing the organization’s public relations and outreach programs;
  • Coordinating government and legislative affairs activities; and
  • Representing human resource professionals in business and community activities.

SHRM Hawaii also works with one state-wide non-profit charitable foundation called the SHRM Hawaii Educational Foundation which has four districts:

  • Big Island District
  • Kauai District
  • Maui District
  • Oahu District

The purpose of the Foundation is to facilitate education and training on human resource management topics for SHRM Hawaii members, businesses, and others interested in the field. The Foundation assists members in obtaining various professional certifications, and they provide mentoring and support for college students interested in human resource management. The Foundation also participates in programs concerning school-to-work issues.

SHRM Hawaii and the Educational Foundation is "staffed" by Chapter members who generously volunteer their time and effort to "making things happen.”

A diversity survey of our Chapter membership was completed in November 2004 through the efforts of our SHRM Hawaii Chapter Diversity Committee. The survey results reflect our current membership data and illustrates the diversity that makes Hawaii unique.
