Conference Breakout Sessions

Kamāliko
Early-Career HR Professionals
The term "māliko", means "to bud, as leaves." Similar to those who are early in their career, they are mere sprouts that are full of potential. Through time, experience, and adequate care they will eventually grow and develop.
Kamōhalu
Mid-Career HR
Professionals
Mōhalu, meaning to open and unfold, is representative of the stage in a leaf's or a flower's life where it begins to unfold and becomes more established and prominent on the larger plant. Just as those who are in the middle of their career, they have become more established within an organization by learning and gaining skills, and perhaps even moving up the ladder. Mōhalu, however, has another meaning, being glossed as "comfortable, loose, and slack." People reaching the middle points in their career may get too loose and even slack because they have become too comfortable in their position. Here the term mōhalu is a reminder to constantly seek ways for improvement and reinvigoration by staying opening to learning, and folding and unfolding new development opportunities.
Kalaukūkahi
HR Department of One
The laukūkahi is a native fern (Lindsaya macraena). This term was specifically chosen for its literal meaning, the "leaf that is alone." The plant itself alludes to those who successfully and skillfully ran a department on their own.
Keahuahu
Executive Professionals
Ahuahu is glossed with many related terms including "healthy, vigorous; strength and vigor, as of animal or plant; to grow rapidly, thrive." Such as that of well nutured for plants that have weathered through time and the elements, executive professionals must have years of hard work, dedication, and commitment in order to have earned their positions. Like thriving and healthy plants, professionals at this stage should also be thriving and healthy in their careers.
